20 JULY 2023: What will you fly in 2026?
Hi there,
I’ve been thinking - What drives us to go on wild, challenging and often painful trips? This is a core question; without a clear answer, it would be impossible to start an adventurous life, right?
I will share the winning answer next time, but here is what we’ve got this week:
New adventure ride + border crossing (Alps)
Airships 2026
Bridge jumping with a parachute
Subsidised rent for an Italian adventure
Ama Dablam from above
How to always get better accommodation deals?
Win a Nothern Lights trip
70% off European holidays
‘Nothing is Impossible’ if measured correctly
Read time: 3 min; research: 12 hours (with a few breaks, distractions and pathetic procrastination)
ADVENTURE INSPIRATION
A new cable car turns the border crossing in the Alps into a scenic adventure. Now open, the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II is the first of its kind and the Alps' highest-altitude border crossing. The breathtaking cable car traverses the scenic Theodul glacier, treating passengers to magnificent mountain vistas on the way from Switzerland to Italy and back.
Airships 2026: Get ready for a revolution in air travel - more comfort and 90% less emissions compared to modern planes. By 2026, the first 100 passengers will fly on an airship that might look like a cruise liner in the air. A few companies are racing to release the first airship. Will you be one of the first lucky travellers?
Watch a new adrenaline-rising experience - jumping off a bridge with a parachute. Will it catch on?
Spend a year in Italy and rent for less. Who said that adventure is always short-lived? Take a year out to explore one of the best countries in the world. Known for its Renaissance art, award-winning cuisine and natural beauty, the city of Mantua in Italy is offering to pay €150 per month towards your rent there. Applications will open this September.
Mantua was established c. 2,000 years ago on the banks of River Mincio
FEATURED ADVENTURE: HIMALAYAS, NEPAL
or - PROPER BUCKET LIST MATERIAL
Here is an amazing video from the top of Ama Dablam. As a ‘Matterhorn of the Himalayas’, this peak in Nepal demands respect and proper ice-climbing skills. Popularised by Pepsi and Apple ads, it was attempted by 3,000 climbers, with 1,900 successful ascents.
Thankfully, you can see Ama Dablam and other striking ice peaks on the Everest Base camp trek - another good reason to have the trek on your bucket list.
TRAVEL DEALS & GIVEAWAYS
Adventure giveaway: Win an all-expenses-paid trip to capture the mesmerising Northern Lights in Norway (worth $15,000). Applications close on August 20.
Holiday sale: As part of its semi-annual sale, EF Ultimate Break is running a sale on summer 2024 packages until July 27. You can save up to $800 on trips to Greece, and up to $600 off packages to Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.

Do you know how to always book cheaper Airbnbs and hotels?
Thanks to the dynamic pricing algorithm, if you book a week, three days or just one day before your arrival, you can DM an Airbnb host for an additional 15-25% off on already discounted properties.
Just don’t be rude and offer something in return, like leaving the place squeaky clean and promoting their listing with an epic review. Btw, dynamic pricing works on Booking.com also.
ADVENTURE STORY TO PONDER ON
“I have to compete against myself to be better than who I was yesterday,” says Nepalese mountaineer Nirmal Purja in a Netflix documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible. In it, Nirmal and his team attempt to scale the world's 14 tallest mountains, known as the eight-thousanders, in under seven months!
Adopted as a motto, his quote could help many of us feel better. Instead of chasing ideals, it calls to measure our success against what we were before.
Ten years ago, Mark and I were living in South East Asia in a $75-per-month room. It didn’t have a shower but offered many wildlife encounters with cockroaches and spiders. So, although it’s raining, it feels great to be typing this letter in comfort.
If we all did this mental exercise regularly, wouldn’t it be the best route to a happier society?
